Four months after Comcast announced it was integrating Amazon Prime Video, the app is finally rolling out to Comcast’s Xfinity platform nationwide.
Over the next week, Comcast will start allowing its pay TV subscribers to search for and watch Prime Video content on their X1 set-top boxes in 4K Ultra HD and HDR. Customers can launch the Prime Video app by saying “Amazon Prime Video” into the X1 voice remote or by navigating to the X1 apps menu.
“We are thrilled to give X1 customers access to Amazon Prime Video just in time for the holidays,” said Matt Strauss, executive vice president of Xfinity Services at Comcast Cable, in a statement. “Prime Video is a fantastic extension of the programming choices available to our customers. By integrating hundreds of thousands of live and on demand choices from the best networks, studios and streaming services, our customers can instantly search, control and watch all of their entertainment in one place with their voice.”
“Streaming Prime Originals is now easier than ever for our Prime members with X1,” said Greg Hart, vice president of Amazon Prime Video, in a statement. “The launch arrives just in time for Season 2 of Emmy-winning ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ Season 3 of ‘The Grand Tour’ and holiday classics like ‘It’s A Wonderful Life,’ which is now available exclusively on Prime Video.”
Comcast subscribers won’t be able to sign up for Amazon Prime or the standalone Prime Video streaming service through the app on X1. But the X1 will direct them to a specific Amazon URL where they can sign up. If Comcast subscribers are already Prime customers they can login using their existing credentials.
The integration with Comcast puts Amazon Prime Video closer to equal footing with rival Netflix, which has been integrated into the X1 platform since 2016.
The article was updated to clarify that Comcast customers will not be able to sign up for Amazon Prime directly from the X1.
